Predeceased by both his first and second wives, “Scott” is survived by his sons, Greg and Diane Scott of Kernersville, Eric and Judith Scott of Durham, a daughter Sandra S. Jennings of Emerald Isle,
three Grandchildren, and two Great Grandsons. He is also survived by a brother Philip Scott of Durham, and two sisters Mrs. Doris Paschall of Durham, and Mrs. Hilda Swainey of Tega Cay, SC.
“Scott” was a veteran of WWII. With the 24th Infantry Division, he served in active combat resulting in the liberation of several islands in the Pacific theater. Later, with the US Army Military Police in Tokyo, he came to have a high regard for the Japanese people, whom he said “were themselves the victims of cruel and ruthless leaders.” “Scott” refused to accept all the medals he was due, saying only, “the true heroes were those who did not return.”
During his active life, “Scott” became well known as a Master Stone Mason and custom home builder in South Florida. A natural athlete, he enjoyed a great many outdoor sports including walking, baseball, and golf all his adult life.
Graveside services will be held on Thursday, May 17th, 12:00 noon at Guilford Memorial Park in Greensboro, following his last great battle with leukemia. In lieu of flowers, memorials are encouraged to support the wonderful service provided by “Hospice and Palliative Care of Greensboro”, 2500 Summit Avenue, Greensboro, NC 27405.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, 10:30 am till 11:45 am at Hanes Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel.
