Marylene F. Griffin, 75, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, January 28, 2012. Funeral services will be held on Monday, 2:00 p.m. at Shining Light Baptist Church with Rev. Jimmy Dillon and Rev. David E. Neese officiating. Burial will follow at Guilford Memorial Park.
Marylene was born on January 19, 1937 in Guilford County, NC, the daughter of R.D. and Doshia Whitley Fields. On December 24, 1958, she and her loving husband D.H. Griffin were married. The following year, together, they started the D.H. GriffinWrecking Company and have worked together for the last 54 years. They were charter members of Shining Light Baptist Church.
Marylene was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister. She was always there like a mother to all the D.H. Griffin employees, she will be deeply missed by all.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Lawrence D. Fields, Clifton “Doodle” Fields and Paul Fields and sister, Lois Fields. Those left to cherish her memory are her loving husband, D.H. Griffin; children, Benita Griffin Mitchell and husband Johnny, Melody Griffin London and husband Lee,David Griffin Jr. and wife Donna; grandchildren; Johnny Mitchell JR., Amber McGee and husband Chris, Heather Mitchell, Deven Griffin, Dakota Griffin, Brooke London, David Griffin III, Matthew Padgett II, and Hunter Flippin; great grandchildren; Peyton McGee and Cooper McGee and sister, Mildred Fields Neese and husband Rev. David E. Neese; brothers-in-law; Jimmy Griffin and Sammy Moore and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family wants to thank all the nurses and doctors at both Wesley Long and Moses Cone Hospitals for the concern and care given to Marylene and the family.
The family will receive friends on Sunday evening from 5 to 8 p.m. at Shining Light Baptist Church, 4530 W. Wendover Ave, Greensboro, NC 29409.
