A celebration of Mary Lou’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 22, 2013 at Tabernacle United Methodist Church with The Reverend Dr. Kyles Y. Wallace and The Reverend Aaron Moss officiating. Committal services will follow at the church cemetery.
Mary Lou was born May 23, 1950 in Rocky Mount, the daughter of Jasper Dillard Bulluck, Jr. and Mary Kathleen Mayberry Bulluck. She graduated from Rocky Mount High School in 1968 where she was active in Girl Scouts, the Booster Club, and was a debutant. She was a member of Tabernacle United Methodist Church where she was on the T.L.C. Committee and served as a church volunteer. In 1972, Mary Lou graduated with honors from Elon University. She taught First Grade and Kindergarten in Randolph County for 29 years where she was awarded Teacher of the Year twice at Randleman Elementary and also earned Teacher of the Year for Randolph County in 2000. She enjoyed gardening, reading, walking on the beach and shagging with her husband, Charlie. They were members of the Greensboro Shag Club at Thirsty’s 2. Mary Lou was preceded in death by her grandparents and her mother and father.
Mary Lou is survived by her husband of 35 years, Charlie Townsend, her brother, Jasper Dillard Bulluck, III of Raleigh, sister, Nancy Bulluck Lehnberg (Jim) of Lewisville, nieces; Amanda and Anna Lehnberg, sister-in-law, Barbara Mitchell (Carl) of Monroe, their son, Brian Mitchell of Charleston, SC and two special nephews; Steven and Patrick Heath.
Mary Lou would asked to give a special thanks to her husband Charlie and to her chosen sister, Renie Ledwell for their support throughout her illness and also to Beacon Place Hospice for their care.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in memory of Mary Lou to Tabernacle United Methodist Church, 5721 Methodist Rd., Greensboro, NC 27406 or to Beacon Place Hospice, 2502 Summit Ave., Greensboro, NC 27405.
The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall after the service.
