Mrs. Mary Brown Robbins, “Miss Mary” as she was affectionately called, was a native of Augusta Georgia born September 29, 1930. She exchanged this earthly life for eternity December 27, 2022. A service to celebrate her life will be held Wednesday, January 4, 2023, 11:00 a.m., at Hanes-Lineberry N. Elm Chapel. Burial will follow at Lakeview Memorial Park.
Mary had a zest for life and traveled extensively throughout the country and several foreign countries. She took special pride in her floral garden and enjoyed relaxing on her front porch in the company of friends, neighbors, family and her devoted canine companions, Molly and Brandi. She attended Mather Academy, Camden SC and received her BS degree in Home Economics from Bennett College and a MS degree in Adult Education from NC A&T State University, Greensboro, NC.
Her work experience includes manager of Bennett College Snake Bar, Home Economist with Office of Economics Opportunity (OEO) and Home Economic Extension at NC A&T Extension Program. While at A&T she received the R. E. Jones Award, the highest honor received by an A&T extension program employee. She was a dedicated member of Union Memorial United Methodist church where she served in many capacities: Senior Usher Board, Mission Chairperson, Work Areas and Society Chair, Kitchen Committee, Tuesday Fellowship, Wednesday Bible Study, Roxie McNair Circle Bible Study Group at St. James Presbyterian Church. Miss Mary’s other affiliations include charter member of Gamma Sigma Delta Honor Society of Agriculture, charter member of Avery Bethel Unit of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit #267, membership in National Alliance of Postal and Federal Employees Auxiliary, The National Association of Retired Federal Employees, member of Immaculate Chapter #537 of Eastern Stars and Kallif Court #90 Daughter of ISIS and a life member of NAACP.
She is survived by many close friends and truly believed they are the family we choose for ourselves. A special thanks to her caregivers, Stanley and Elwillie McAdoo for their care, friendship and love for the past several years. Her devoted canine companion John John will miss her daily affection.
Friends will be received from 10:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m., prior to the service, at the funeral home.
