Mrs. Mary Lescelles Seymour Overman

A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Sunday, May 6, 2012 at Grace United Methodist Church in Greensboro.

Mary was born in Elizabeth City, NC, on September 23, 1917, to Clyde and Lena Seymour. She graduated from Elizabeth City High School. She was married to Bruce Howland Overman in 1937 and was a full-time homemaker until his death in 1963. After graduating from Guilford Technical Institute, Mary worked as office manager for W.M. Coward, DDS, while continuing to raise and educate her three daughters and two sons. Mary was preceded in death by sisters Margaret (Peggy) Sanders and Elsie Gregory Dillon.

Mrs. Overman is survived by her five children: Jane Overman Lee and husband Ben, Bruce Howland Overman, Jr., Mary Clyde (Gay) Overman Hodkinson and husband Ronn, Lynne Overman Finison and husband Jim and Robert Wood (Bob) Overman and wife Rhonda, as well as by her thirteen grandchildren: Mary Bruce (Brucie) Lee, Gaye Lee Stewart and husband Mike, Benjamin F. Lee, IV and wife Allyson, Elizabeth Jane (Betsy) Lee, Julie Lescelles Overman, Bruce Howland Overman, III, Alisa Hodkinson Garland and husband Scott, Kristen Hodkinson Powell and husband Greg, Chadd John-Bruce Hodkinson and wife Topaz, Kimberly Presnell Glenn and husband John, Katherine Presnell and husband Jeff Koch, Jennifer Ann Overman and Mary Shannon Overman. Mary is also survived by her sister, Billie Seymour Keating of Walnut Creek, CA and by 24 great-grandchildren.
