Mary J. Newnam

Mary was born on November 23, 1934 in Guilford County, the daughter of John Curtis and Florence Barnes Johnson. She worked with Jefferson Pilot Insurance and retired after 38 years of service. She loved to work in the garden, growing her flowers and spending time at the beach. Mary also cherished the time she could spent with her family and grandchildren. Mary was a member of Pleasant Garden Baptist Church. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister. She will be deeply missed.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Crayton Johnson . Those left to cherish her memory are her loving husband of 54 years, Earl W. Newnam; sons, Craig Thomas Newnam and wife Kim of Randleman, NC and Christopher W. Newnam and wife Melissa of Myrtle Beach, SC; grandchildren; Jacob, Jason, Clif, Shane and Zoie; sister, Emma Lou Veach and husband George of Winston Salem, NC and brother, John Curtis Johnson Jr. of Winston Salem, NC and her “handpicked sisters, Tina Amick and Linda Lanham.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, 11:00 a.m. at Pleasant Garden Baptist Church with Rev. Michael Barrett officiating. Burial will follow at Guilford Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Hanes Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel.
