Gibsonville- Marilyn Miller Plemmons was born June 15, 1935 in Asheville, NC to the late Leonard Paul and Effie Lillian Salter Miller. She was reunited with her husband and love of her life, William Edison (Eddie) Plemmons, and greeted by her Savior, Jesus Christ, on July 4, 2016 after several years of declining health. The family will receive friends during a reception from 11 AM to 12:45 PM on Thursday, July 7 at Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church, 5120 Burlington Road, Greensboro, NC 27405, followed by a funeral service to celebrate her life in the sanctuary at 1 PM and a committal service at Guilford Memorial Park at 2:45 PM.
Marilyn was an excellent homemaker and very active in the Greensboro community, especially with the Republican Party. She was a Republican delegate for Guilford Co., secretary of the Republican Women’s Club and the Guilford County PTA. She was a member of the Pansy Garden Club from 1969 to 2016 and served as its President at various times. For several years she was a member of the Guilford Planning Board. She was always supportive of young women and served many years as a Girl Scout Leader.
While raising their family and keeping a lovely home she also managed to find time to enjoy macramé, tole painting, cake decorating, taking the kids to ball games and practices, quilting (20 quilts at last count!), researching genealogy for all four sides of the family and providing each of her children and grandchildren with family history/scrap books as well. She enjoyed repairing antique furniture left by or made by her grandfathers, loved art and crafts, tiled floors and walls and stucco walls. She supported her children in all they undertook and her husband with his textile shows in cities in the South. They enjoyed boating and other fun activities on the weekends and extensive touring on both sides of the US while participating in US Navy reunions. She and Eddie also travelled throughout the US, and during his work at Strandberg Engineering Labs they had the opportunity to visit Central and South America, Germany and France where he was a representative for many factories.
She will be missed by her children, Bryan (Sarah) Plemmons and Yvonne Plemmons (Robert) Dickey; grandchildren; Lauren (Jeffrey) Strauss, Allyson (Robert) Bonzo , Seth (Samantha) Plemmons, Darrell Francis and Celeste (Johnny) Pressley; great grandchildren, Audrey and William Grimm, Avery and Caroline Bonzo and Malcolm Pressley, brother, Lawrence (Sandra) Miller; brother-in-law, Fred (Loretta) Plemmons; sister-in-law, Gladys Plemmons Church; the Worley family of in-laws; and special cousin Geraldine Clute Brown. She dearly loved her extended family of numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and their families and all her dear friends she thought of like brothers and sisters.
Even though Marilyn battled cancer since 1999 she always felt blessed with the health she did have and her wonderful family and friends. She always stayed busy and interested in so many things.
