A gathering of family and friends with refreshments will be held Friday, 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m., at Hanes-Lineberry N. Elm Chapel, 515 N. Elm St. Greensboro, NC 27401. A private graveside will follow at Westminster Gardens.
Marilyn was born October 2, 1945 in Durham, the daughter of Wayne and Nancy Mangum Pope (Scoggins).
Marilyn was the owner of a hair salon for many years which was a good fit for her artistic abilities. She enjoyed crafting and traveling, especially in her later years. Everyone loved Marilyn and her sense of humor, quick wit and straight forward demeanor. She will be missed.
In addition to her parents, Marilyn was preceded in death by her soulmate and husband Steve, whom she enjoyed a 49 year marriage with following an 11 week acquaintance in college. She was looking forward to being with him again.
Surviving are her sisters, Lee Anne King (Donnie) of Durham and Susan Denise Scoggins (James) of Greensboro; sister in law, Pamela Sue Nance (Bud), and brother in law David Brittain (Marcella), all of Asheboro; several nieces and nephews.
The family asks with gratitude that memorials in Marilyn’s name be made to Beacon Place-Hospice & Palliative Care of Greensboro, 2502 Summit Ave., Greensboro, NC 27405.
