A funeral service will be held Tuesday, 2:00 p.m., at Hanes-Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel. Burial will follow at Guilford Memorial Park.
Margaret was born June 30, 1925 in Morganton, the daughter of Oscar W. Neely and Margaret Propst McNeely.
Peggy was a graduate of Greensboro Senior High and attended Greensboro Women’s College. She was employed in the service records department at the Overseas Replacement Depot and following that at the US Department of the Treasury, Internal Revenue Service in 1953 and retired in 1985. She received the Albert Gallatin Award from the Treasury Department. Peggy was active in the Henry K. Butner Post #53 American Legion Auxiliary where she was treasurer for many years. Like her mother, Peggy has volunteered over 500 hours at the Durham Veterans Hospital. She was also named “Woman of the Year” by the American Business Women’s Association, Greensboro Chapter, where she served as treasurer, recording secretary, publicity chairman and several other committees. Peggy was a member of First Lutheran Church for 87 years where she was active in the library and preparing church bulletins.
Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Margaret Ann “Mickie” McClenny of Columbia, AL; grandchildren, Kimberly Mills, Denny McClenny and Gary Gibson; great grandchildren, Michael and Haylee Gibson; brother, Richard McNeely; nephew, Troy McNeely; nieces, Barbara Muirhead and Nancy Griffin.
