Margaret Elizabeth Evans Hawkins, 89, passed away on Monday, October 7, 2019. She was born on June 23, 1930 in Clinton, S.C., the daughter of William “Bill” and Annie Wilson Evans. She graduated from Clinton High School in 1947. From 1947 through 1952, she worked at the Clinton Cotton Mill. In 1952, Margaret married the love of her life, Roy Hawkins. She started with Pan American Airlines in 1957 and from there went to work with NASA where she was part of the Apollo II event. Following her career there, she worked at Green Ford, Marilyn’s Modeling Agency and Greensboro Auto Auction.
She was a member of Gate City Baptist Church where she was active with Meals on Wheels, served on the Bereavement Committee and the Joy SS Class. She was preceded in death by her husband Roy Hawkins in 1998; her parents and grandson, Shane A. Seifreit. Those left to cherish her memory are her daughters; Lynn Cameron (Allen) and Toni Morton (John), and Victoria Hawkins, all of Greensboro, NC. Grandchildren surviving are; Leigh Lancaster (Brady), and sons, Asher and Mason; Whitney Johnson (Chad) and son Matthew.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, 2:00 p.m. at Hanes Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel. Burial will follow at Guilford Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the funeral home.
