Julia Lillie Meggs Sheppard, 89, passed away peacefully on November 5, 2022. Mrs. Sheppard was born in Union County NC on July 16, 1933 to the late Joseph Sandy Meggs and the late Jennie Edwards Meggs. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Patricia Sheppard Glosson, sister, Mary Bessie Meggs Turner, and her brothers, Richard Thomas Meggs and Joseph Henry Meggs. Lillie grew up in Union County then moved to Greensboro NC. She was the widow of the late Wilton Atlas Sheppard and the late Jack Curtis Chrisco.
Lillie worked in retail at Woolworth and later at Rose’s in Greensboro, and she later operated a daycare in her home. She helped many parents raise their young children, all of whom affectionately called her, “Grandma.” She was a talented seamstress who loved to sew clothing as well as crafts. She also loved gardening, working with flowers, and camping. She was also an avid reader and an excellent cook.
Lillie is survived by her daughters, Lee Joyce (Keith), Donna Hardy (Tim), and Diane Hill; her grandchildren, Tracy Pace (Mick), Kristen Hardy, Brandon Hardy (Katelyn), Seth Hill (Brittany) and Scottie Hill; her great-grandchildren, Alex Courtney (Tyler), Jacob Pace, Noah Hardy, Grayson Hardy, and Terry Hill; and her sister, Elizabeth Meggs Tarleton; and many nieces, nephews, and many of the children, now adults, that she helped to raise when she worked in childcare.
A visitation for Lillie will be held Thursday, November 10, 2022 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at Hanes-Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel, 6000 West Gate City Blvd., Greensboro, North Carolina, followed by a funeral service at 1:00 PM. She will be laid to rest in Guilford Memorial Park Cemetery, 6000 West Gate City Blvd., Greensboro, North Carolina 27407.
Serving as pallbearers are Tim Hardy, Brandon Hardy, Seth Hill, Mick Pace, Tyler Courtney and Tony Workman.
