Lee Roy Keck

A memorial service will be held 1:00 pm Saturday, January 6, 2018 at Pleasant Union United Methodist Church, 5929 Coble Church Road in Liberty, with Rev. Keith Newell & Rev. David Neff officiating. A reception will follow in the Fellowship Hall.

Lee Roy was born October 11, 1926, in Guilford County, NC, graduated from Nathanael Greene High School; attended Guilford College; retired from Western Electric after 30 years, then became owner operator of Keck’s Dairy Farm, where he worked diligently until his passing. In his early years, he played for a number of fast-pitch softball teams, as an accomplished pitcher. Lee Roy was on the board of Select Sires, was a Julian Lion’s Club member for 64 years and was awarded the Jack Stickley Fellowship Award, which is the highest honor bestowed by the North Carolina Lions. He was a representative of Gideon’s International speaking at numerous churches and also was an active lifelong member of Pleasant Union United Methodist Church, holding many leadership positions. Lee Roy was on the board and an active member of North Carolina State University College of Life Sciences, and a committed member of the North Carolina Holstein Association.

Some of his favorite pastimes were flying his own plane, going on family vacations, and participating in all sports.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 73 years, Betty, and sister, Grace Deaton. His sister, Annie Mae Butler, followed him in death two days after his passing. He is survived by children, Mickey Keck (Jean), Judy Shoffner (Tim), Mark Keck (Judy) all of Julian; his sister Mary Lou Hanner of Wingate; grandchildren, Brian Keck (Lisa), Barry Keck, Neil Shoffner (Jennifer), Daniel Shoffner (Courtney), Joi Keck, Jodi Heidrick (Adam) and twelve great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Hilda Humble (Clifton) and Ruby Greeson. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews and cousins.

A special thanks to long term caregivers Glenda, Teresa, Barbara, as well as Claire, Cindy, Brenda, Donna, and the wonderful staff of Hospice. Also to all the friends and neighbors who have been so faithful, we express our eternal gratitude.
