You might have known Ms. Pegram by another name: Elmore, Laura, Sis, Sissy, Aunt Mo, Aunt Mo Mo, Aunt Sis, or Aunt Elmore. Whatever you may have called her, she called you special.
Ms. Pegram grew up in Stokesdale and moved to Greensboro in the 1940's. She graduated from Greensboro High School - now Grimsley - and went on to work at Shelby Mutual Insurance Company for 42 years. Ms. Pegram was the first female in her company to receive an Adjustor's License and served as a loan officer for the company's credit union. She attended the Salvation Army Church in her early years. Later she attended the Pilgrim Holiness Church in Summerfield for 40 years - a church started by her family. Most recently she attended Emmanuel Wesleyan Church and was a member since 1999.
An avid globe-trotter, Ms. Pegram has traveled the world including 36 countries and all 50 states. She visited Hong Kong several times and even rode a camel while in Egypt. One of her favorite hobbies was shopping and her shoe and matching handbag collection rivals Imelda Marcos. She drove a small black sports-car and in her younger years had a lead foot. To know her was share her contagious smile, and her positive, uplifting attitude. She had the unique ability to find humor in all situations.
She was preceded in death by her sister Notra Heaps, and her parents Rev. Hersie Pegram and Flossie Pegram. Her surviving siblings are Barbara Marlow, Rev. R. A. Pegram and special friend and sister-in-law Melba. She leaves behind nieces and nephews: Byron Pegram, Donald Marlow, Gail Anderson, Gary Heaps, Gay Ann Phillips, Jill Ballance, Joy Pegram Kern, Rom Pegram, and Stan Pegram. Special great nieces and nephews include Amy Marlow Kelly, Christopher Ballance, Marcy Anderson McCaskill, Mindy Anderson Hopper, and Nicholas Ballance. Her nine cats - or however many decided to drop by for Meow Mix - will miss her dearly.
The funeral will be held at Emmanuel Wesleyan Church at 2:00 PM on Tuesday March 30, 2010. Visitation will be at the church from 12:00 to 2:00 PM prior to the service. Burial will follow in Lakeview Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, you may adopt one of her cats or make a donation to the Emmanuel Wesleyan Fellowship Hall Building fund.
