Juanita "Nita" G. Newcomb

Juanita “Nita” G. Newcomb, 94, passed into the arms of our Heavenly Father, Saturday, October 28, 2023. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 1, at Westminster Gardens, in the Mausoleum, 3601 Whitehurst Road, Greensboro. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Nita was born April 17, 1929, in Hopewell, Virginia, daughter of the late Herman and Fannie Gravitte. She worked for Bank of America for 40 years and worked for the UNCG Athletic Department for 20 years and was awarded the Spartan Legacy Award by the student athletes.

Nita was one of a kind, to know her was to love her. She was a pillar of the Lawndale Baptist Church and the UNCG sports communities. She loved her family, baseball, beanie babies and porcelain dolls and if you never had one of her pound cakes you sure did miss out. We will miss her dearly but know we will be reunited again.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Newcomb was preceded in death by her husband, Jeter P. Newcomb; sisters, Clara Belle Gravitte, Esther Mae Humphries; brother, Ralph Gravitte; son-in-law, David R. Clark and daughter-in-law, Wanda P. Newcomb. She is survived by her children, Phil Newcomb, Lynn Clark; grandchildren, Brian Philip Newcomb (Allyson), Barry Newcomb (Stephanie) and great grandchildren, Philip, Lauren, Rainey, Kenzie, Ava, Austin, and Anniston.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Nita’s memory to the Breast Cancer Foundation or the Leukemia Society of America.

Lynn would like to thank the night employees of Chic-fil-A and Jakes on Battleground for their kindness and concern over the last three years.
