Born in Durham, North Carolina, she was the daughter of Lawrence Pendergrass and Mary Stephens. Joyce graduated from Alamance School, being part of its final graduating class. She cherished her church family for the support and fellowship they provided. Known as a devoted homemaker and beloved wife, Joyce was preceded in death by Thomas Worth Oliver and her son William Lawrence Oliver.
She is survived by her family members: Larry Pendergrass (Jane Hannah), Tommy Oliver, Laurie Oliver (Dean Farmer), BJ Oliver (Megan Oliver), Brittney O’Brien (Brennan O’Brien), Ashley Oliver, Calli Oliver, Jack Oliver, Aidan O’Brien, Molly O’Brien, Bayne Tillman, and Cashis Mitchell.
In addition to her loving family and church community, Joyce Oliver had a zest for life and a variety of hobbies. She enjoyed sailing, sewing, shopping for antiques, painting, and even had a daring side with activities like bungee jumping. Her adventurous spirit and creative pursuits enriched her life and brought joy to those around her.
The family extends their gratitude to Beacon Place for their exceptional care. In lieu of donations, the family requests support for the Beacon House, Authora Care, and Bethlehem Methodist Church in Climax.
A service will be held at Bethlehem Methodist Church on Sunday, April 7 at 2:00 p.m., followed by a reception at 3:00 p.m. Joyce will be deeply missed and remembered fondly by all who knew her.
