Joseph Edward Oliver Sr.

Joseph Edward Oliver, Sr. (80) went to be with the Lord on June 14, 2010, surrounded by his family. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, June 18, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at Hanes Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel. Burial will follow at Guilford Memorial Park.

The son of the late George Leslie Oliver and Ruth Scott, Joe was a lifelong resident of Guilford County and a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a commercial carpenter by trade and retired from Carpenters & Millwrights Union Local 312. He enjoyed gardening, and took great pride in his flowers, especially his rose bushes. He also enjoyed beekeeping and any activities with his family, which included his loyal sheltie, Bo. Joe was a devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather. We will miss him but cherish the strong example he was and the wonderful memories he created.

He is survived by his wife Betty Jo East Oliver, children, Terri Washam (Tommy), Toni Lewis (Jody), Joseph Oliver, Jr. (Jamie), Chris Oliver, Sean Oliver, Shayna Oliver, grandchildren, Kara Suzanne Washam, Matthew Joseph Oliver, and Liza Oliver Lewis, brother Donald Oliver, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Joe was predeceased by his parents; Brothers George Leslie Oliver, Jr., Jack Oliver, Johnny Oliver, and Ronald Oliver.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, June 17, 2010 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Hanes Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel.
