Joe Cox, 86, passed away at his residence on Tuesday, October 16, 2018.
He was born in Greensboro, NC on February 6, 1932.
He graduated from Greensboro Senior High School where he was a member of the Queen’s Men Quartet and Choir and attended Guilford College. Joe worked at Security National Bank for 8 years and retired from Westminster Co. (a Weyerhaeuser Co.) after 30 years. Once a Marine, always a Marine, he proudly served in the Korean War. Joe enjoyed his years of softball with Higgins Cycle Shop as a fine 3rd baseman. He won MVP more than once.
It was a wonderful day when he was re-introduced to Beverly, his wife and sweetheart of 20 years who he knew in high school and even serenaded her at their wedding.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Doris Irving Cox, and his brother, Lloyd J. Monroe.
Joe was very proud of his children, Donna and Alan.
He is survived by his wife, Beverly Hall Cox; daughter, Donna Key; son, J. Alan Cox and wife Carmen; grandson Adam Key; stepchildren, Lynne Gantz, Steven and Scott Walton; 6 step-children, and 3 step-great-grandchildren.
Joe was a much loved Guest Services Volunteer at Cone Hospital for many years and a Mobile Meals Volunteer.
His sense of humor and dry wit made Joe a joy to be around; he never met a stranger.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation be made to Office of Institutional Advancement c/o Cone Health Guest Services, 1200 N. Elm St. or Mobile Meals c/o Senior Resources of Guilford County 1401 Benjamin Pkwy., Greensboro, NC 27408 or to the charity of your choice. Hanes-Lineberry N.
