John Welles Wilder, III, age 60, passed away on March 25, 2020 at Alamance Health Care Center after several months of declining health. A private graveside service will be held April 14, 2020 at Westminster Gardens in Greensboro.
Better known as Johnny, he was a loving father and grandfather, and an interesting and caring brother. He was born in Raleigh, NC to J. Welles Wilder, Jr. and Dawn Barefoot Wilder on April 22nd. He lived most of his life in the Greensboro area, but also lived in numerous states including Texas, California, Oregon and Georgia. He loved to travel and see new places. He also enjoyed playing the guitar, spending time with friends and family and playing pool. He had his own concrete business for a few years, then moved into sales, self-employed, for about 10 years. He founded Corner Pocket Billiards in McLeansville before retiring. Johnny never met a stranger, and was always making new friends everywhere he went. He enjoyed telling jokes and seemed to keep a positive outlook on life, even when things were difficult, much like his maternal grandfather. His interesting outlook on life and his unique personality will be missed.
He is survived by his parents, J. Welles Wilder, Jr. and Dawn Wilder of New Zealand, son John W. Wilder, IV and partner Kristin Stevenson, grandson Jonah Wilder,of Burlington, sister Catharine R. Cooper and husband Kirby Cooper of Gibsonville, and brother David W.Wilder and his wife, Marcia Wilder, of Franklin, TN, along with numerous aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews. We love you Johnny and you will be missed.
