Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Friday, October 7, 2011, at Friendly Avenue Baptist Church, with Dr. Pastor Pat Cronin, officiating. One hour prior to the service, the family will receive friends, beginning at 10:00 am, in the church vestibule. Burial will follow the service at Guilford Memorial Park Cemetery.
Born September 15, 1931, in Danville, Illinois, to the late Charles and Nellie J. Smith, Mr. Smith was a faithful member of Friendly Avenue Baptist Church. He was a loving a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. After graduating from Danville High School, he moved to Greensboro to manage H.S Kress Store. He spent 40 years in the hotel hospitality industry then retired from H&R Block and The Greensboro Auto Auction. He was an avid reader and before his health began to fail he loved going to the beach and playing golf. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers, David Hacker and Dick Smith.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 30 years, Zada Smith of the home; son, John Charles Smith; daughter, Mary Hazel Smith; step-daughter, Teresa Watson; step-sons, Randy Asbury and Sammy Asbury; grandchildren, Tabitha, Eric, Derek, Tommy, Angela, and Kelly; seven great-grandchildren; and his nephews, David Smith, Michael Smith, Gary Smith, and John Eric Smith.
