John Michael Ess

John was born in Minneapolis, MN to the late Arthur George and Janet Forcelle Ess. In 1968 due to a transfer with his father’s employer the family moved to NC. He graduated from NCSU with a B.S. in Physics and was employed as an electrical engineer for many years before leaving the work force to become the primary caregiver for his son, Stephen. John will be remembered as a reserved and introspective person who loved to read and enjoyed cooking. Family vacations consisted of airshows and touring warships. He was fascinated with all things science fiction and history, particularly with WWII.

He was the oldest of nine children, preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Diane. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 37 years, Martha Adcock Ess; sons, Christopher Alexander Ess and wife Amanda, Geoffrey Charles Ess and Stephen Matthew Ess; siblings, Debbie, Laurie, Dana, Susie, Sandy, Pam, and David; and numerous nieces and nephews.
