Joann Last

Joann Russo Last, 69, of Greensboro, NC passed away on Wednesday, December 28, 2022. Born on August 17, 1953 in Flushing, NY, she was the daughter of the late Carlo L. Russo and the late Frances Russo. She was the wife and one true love of Raymond A. Last for 47 years.

Joann spent over 30 years serving as an educator in various public elementary schools, making numerous friends before retiring from Guilford County Schools in 2015.

Her greatest pride and joy were her two daughters. She most enjoyed caring for and spending time with her family, sitting in the sunlight, music, and spoiling her pets. Joann was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church for over 25 years. She also cherished the friends she made at the Wake Forest Hematology & Oncology Center.

Joann was known for her hilariously sarcastic wit (always with a great one-liner) as well as her incredible strength and resilience during her long-fought battle against Acute Myeloid Leukemia, among other health challenges, over recent years. Her passions included her strong Catholic faith, love for her family, and the North Carolina Tar Heels.

Joann is survived by her loving husband, Raymond Last; daughters, Jennifer Last and Patricia Last (Josh Moore); and sister, Donna Robichaud (George).

The visitation will be held on Monday, January 2, 2023 from 6:00-8:00pm at Hanes Lineberry Funeral Home on North Elm Street in Greensboro. The Catholic funeral Mass will be on Tuesday, January 3, 2023 at 11:00am led by Monsignor at St. Pius X Catholic Church, followed by the interment at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
