Greensboro - Joan Illian Anderson passed away on Saturday, September 16, 2017. Joan was an artistic free spirit who enjoyed all experiences of life. Her kind, generous and non-judgmental personality touched the lives of many people throughout the years. She always said that her three sons taught her how to like earth worms. In the week before she died, she spoke of the full life she has lived and described this final part of her journey as a “grand adventure.”
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 23, 2017, 2:00 p.m. at New Garden Friends Meeting located at 801 New Garden Road, with Pastor Margaret Webb officiating. A reception will follow in the Friendship Hall.
Joan was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to the late Harold and Gertrude Illian. She was a graduate of Christ School of Nursing in Cincinnati, Ohio and the Frontier School of Midwifery in Kentucky. She worked as a nurse and later as a lactation consultation.
She was preceded in death by her son Michael Anderson. Joan is survived by her husband of forty-six years C. Earl Anderson; sons, Benjamin Anderson and wife Mary Margaret, and Maxwell Anderson; granddaughters, Holland and Johanna all of Greensboro; sister, Kathleen Altmeyer and husband George of Toronto, Canada.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Beacon Place, 2502 Summit Avenue Greensboro, NC 27405 in memory of Joan Illian Anderson.
