Jimmy was born on September 18, 1962, the son of Jimmy Thomas Sr. and Lillie Higgins Barber, in Greensboro, NC. From his youngest years, he was given the nickname “Hot Rod” and it remained with him his entire life. Jimmy loved motorcycles, the mountains, and his trips to the casinos. He, along with his wife Sara owned and operated Barber Construction. Jimmy was a loving husband, father, son, brother and friend to many. He will be deeply missed.
Jimmy was preceded in death by his father and son, Hunter. Surviving are his loving wife of 31years, Sara; son, Thomas Barber and wife Falon of Liberty, NC; mother, Lillie H. Barber of Greensboro, NC; sister, Tammy Perry and husband Chad and Darrell Barber, all of Greensboro, NC and niece, Porscha Perry.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, 2:00 pm at Hanes Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel with Rev. Jesse Bledsoe officiating. Burial will follow at Guilford Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 6 to 8 pm at Hanes Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel.
On April 5th, the American Cancer Society Relay of Life will be held at UNC-G. Friends of Jimmy will be walking for him in that event. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 4-A Oak Branch Drive, Greensboro, NC 27407. On the for line of the check, write RFLCHUNCG-Hot Rod’s Crew, This memorials will go to his team’s effort in his behalf.
