Jim Longworth

He was born on July 10, 1924 in Winston-Salem, NC. He was the only child of James Edgar Longworth, Sr. and Cordia Annie Baity. He attended Old Town School in Winston-Salem, graduating in 1941.

Mr. Longworth was a World War II veteran. He served in the US Navy from August 1944 until June 1946 as a Navy Seals Second Class Radarman.

Mr. Longworth was employed by Western Electric/AT&T/Lucent Technology retiring on June 30, 1981 after working 34 years and 8 months.

Mr. Longworth was a Lifetime member of the Sportsman’s Wildlife Club in Summerfield and also a benefactor and a Lifetime member of the National Rifle Association.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Ferne Harrison Longworth, daughter Amy Summerlin and her husband Scott of Greensboro.

Visitation will be from 6pm until 8pm Thursday, January 10, 2013 at Hanes-Lineberry North Elm Street and other times at the home of Amy and Scott Summerlin. A graveside service will be at 11:00 am on Friday, January 11, 2013 at Center United Methodist Church in Yadkinville, NC.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Greensboro at 2500 Summit Ave., Greensboro, NC 27405.
