Originally from Cleveland, Ohio, she earned a bachelor’s in education from Kent State University and enjoyed a varied career as an elementary school teacher, a pre-school director, an art gallery owner, and a loving wife and mother. The daughter of an artist, she inherited both a love of and skill in music and art and shared those talents with all. Friends and family have many treasured memories of church choirs, piano serenades, harmonizing sing-a-longs while doing the dishes, and gifts of original cards, calligraphy, and knitted and crocheted items.
She is survived by her son Jim and daughter-in-law Ann, cousin Kay Arthur of Pittsburgh, PA, nieces Candy (Gary) Viens and Cora-Lee (Mark) Smith of Massillon, OH, and the lights of her life- grandchildren Jeremy Wren (who cared so lovingly for her during these last years), Lily (Buck) Blocker, and her very special great-grandchildren Noah Thomas Wren and Izzy Jean Blocker.
She was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 65 years Norman Thomas Wren, her brother Lt. James F. Detzel, and her parents Carl and Catherine Detzel. At her request there will be no service because just like her husband before her “she doesn’t want a fuss.”
In lieu of any flowers the family would suggest a small donation to an organization she and Norm supported throughout their lives, the St. Joseph’s Indian School (stjo.org).
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.AdvantageGreensboro.com for the Wren family.
