Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Tuesday, July 5, 2011 at Grace Baptist Church, 2008 Fairfax Rd., in Greensboro, with Pastor Tony Thomas officiating. There will be no graveside service.
Born in Danville, Virginia, to the late Roy and Georgia Simpkins, James was of the Christian faith. He worked as a self-employed Contractor for the majority of his life and was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the United States Army. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Patsy Simpkins.
Those left to cherish his memory include his sons, Mark Simpkins and wife DeAnna of Porter, Texas and Tony Simpkins and wife Marcella of Greensboro; daughters, Diane Haymore and husband Troy of Pelham, NC, Jeanne Jenkins and husband Clyde of Danville, VA, Brenda Coble of Kernersville; and Hope Beane and husband Greg of Pelham, NC; sisters, Vivian Hutson, Kay Pickrell, and Vicky Keen; brother, Raymond Simpkins; 14 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 12:00 pm until 7:00 pm Monday, July 4, 2011 at Mr. Simpkins home and also from 12:00 pm until 2:00 pm Tuesday, July 5, 2011 at the church, two hours prior to the funeral service.
