James Lewis Poole

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 11, 2017 at Hanes-Lineberry Vanstory Chapel with Rev. Roger Barricks officiating. Burial will follow at Guilford Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:00 pm, one hour prior to the service, at the funeral home.

Jimmy was born on July 7, 1935 in Greensboro to the late Floyd J. Poole and Mamie Irene Brady Poole. He was self-employed most of his life, running Poole’s Grocery in the Glenwood Community in Greensboro. Jimmy never met a stranger and had a remarkable memory for names of all of those that crossed his path. He was a lover of all sports and enjoyed watching ball games with his beloved dog Bubba. In addition to his parents, Jimmy was preceded in death by a brother, Jerry Poole; and his precious dog, Ellie Mae.

He is survived by his loving wife, Verilea Poole of the home; sisters, Helen Poole and Nancy Andrews , both of Greensboro, Doris Ward (Doug) of Greenville, SC, and Susan Evers (Donnie) of Durham, NC; sons, Jeff Poole of Largo, FL and Greg Poole (Michelle) of Wake Forest, NC; daughters, Karen Bolick (Mike), Pamela Sharpe (Steve) and Annette Poole, all of Greensboro; stepdaughters, Lori Bayer (Paul) of Charleston, SC, Mandy Lerner (Rich) of Greensboro, Suzanne Nunn (Michael) of Pleasant Garden, NC; ten grandchildren, Desiree Wilson (Michael), Matthew Wicker, Holly Tucker (Red), Tiffany Bolick, Jessica Baker (Chad), Carley Sharpe, Ethan Poole, Abigail James (Adam), Marley Lerner and Michael Nunn, II; and six great-grandchildren, Taylor and Caitlyn Wilson, Cruz and Luke Baker, and Addison and Asher James.
