James Boyce McLean

A funeral service will be held Sunday, 3:00 p.m., at Friendly Ave. Baptist Church in Greensboro by Rev. Steven King. On Tuesday, December 29, 2015 a funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. at Providence Baptist Church, Georgetown Rd., in Frankfort, KY. A graveside service will follow at 12 noon at Sunset Memorial Gardens, also in Frankfort, KY.

Boyce was born February 6, 1938 in Woodford County, Kentucky, the son of Ira B. McLean and Vera Belle Williams.

Boyce was a member of Friendly Avenue Baptist Church in Greensboro. He retired from the Middletown (Ohio) City School District where he served as teacher and coordinator of work-study programs for special education students. Boyce was also an ordained Baptist minister and did supply preaching for several decades.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Harold and Walter McLean and his sister, Estelle Simon.

Surviving are his son, David McLean and his grandson Brendan McLean, both of Greensboro; siblings, Ira B. McLean, Jr. (Betty), Doris Culbertson, Georgetta Towles (Joe), Raymond McLean (Rosene), and Edward McLean (Grace). He is also survived by his former wife, Barbara Holland McLean, by siblings-in-law, and many much beloved nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received Sunday from 2:00-3:00 p.m., prior to the service, at the Friendly Ave. Baptist Church in Greensboro.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be sent to Friendly Ave. Baptist Church, 4800 W. Friendly Ave., Greensboro, NC 27410, marked for the building, choir, or mission’s funds in Boyce’s memory. The family hopes that all readers will, in Boyce’s words at the end of letters, cards and emails, “Be Blest!”
