Greensboro- Mr. James W. Cofer, 79, passed away at his residence surrounded by his family on December 13, 2014. Services to celebrate his life will be at 11 AM, Wednesday, December 17 at Hanes-Lineberry Sedgefield chapel with interment to follow in Guilford Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 10 to 10:45 prior to the service.
James was born in Johnson City, TN and raised by the late Billy Joe and Lorena Hise Cofer. He remained there until he moved to Greensboro in 1978. He was a carpenter by trade and quite a handy man who could fix almost anything. James had a wonderful sense of humor and enjoyed spending time with his family, especially the grandchildren usually doing whatever they wanted to do, as all wonderful grandfathers will. He loved his canine and feline companions and liked to be outside usually tinkering with something that caught his attention. James never met a stranger and was a generous man who put his family first in his life.
He leaves behind his four children, Betty and husband Mike Sink of Lexington, James and wife Linda Cofer, Tammy Cofer, and Michael Cofer all of Greensboro; special niece, Patricia and husband Donnie Bason of Greensboro who was his caregiver for many years; sister, Linda Pittman of Johnson City, TN; four grandchildren, Chris Herman, Jon Herman, Jennifer Cofer and Elisabeth Cofer; three great grandchildren, Hailey Herman, Blaze Kowalski and Remy Herman; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Anna Belle Cofer and sister, Ruby Williams.
