Mr. Jack Clark Dixon, 84, of 4507 Blue Violet Drive died on November 2, 2010 at Well-Spring Retirement Community. Memorial services will be held at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church on Friday at 2:00 pm. His ashes are to be placed in the Columbarium at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church. A reception for family and friends will follow the memorial service.
Mr. Dixon was born on June 25, 1926 in Guilford County North Carolina to the late Lucy Apple Dixon and Adam Clark Dixon.
He graduated from Bessemer High School in 1943 and then served in the United States Army Air Corps during WW II. He was a l95l graduate of the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. He then pursued a career in accounting with Price, Waterhouse Company in New York City from 1951-1957.Hejoined Peat, Marwick, Mitchell Company (KPMG) in Greensboro in 1957 where he was a manager until he transferred to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1964 where he was admitted to the partnership. In 1978 he moved back to the Greensboro Office as Managing Partner until he retired in 1984. Mr. Dixon was an active contributor to various civic, academic and charitable organizations. He served on the boards of the Greensboro Symphony Orchestra, Greensboro College, Mars Hill College, the Multiple Sclerosis Society and Goodwill Industries. He was a member of various social clubs including the Carolina Club, Greensboro Country Club and Sedgefield Country Club. He was also a charter member of the GSO Investment Club and especially enjoyed attending its monthly meeting.
He was fanatical in his support of the University of North Carolina Tarheels, attending most basketball and football home games and often following the basketball team on the comment trail. He was also a longtime member of the Ram's Club.
He is survived by his sister Rebekah Shropshire and niece Kathy Shropshire of Greensboro. Mr. Dixon had no children but is survived by a number of loving nieces, nephews and a sister-in-law with whom he maintained close relationships. He is also survived by Jackie Wilson who was a special friend.
He was preceded in death by his sisters Norfleet Dixon, Huldah Walston, Elizabeth Tumer and his brothers Arthur Dixon and Huber Dixon.
