Mr. Howard W. O’Ferrell, 76, a resident of Greensboro died Thursday July 28, 2011 at Beacon Place. A lifelong resident of Greensboro he was born September 23, 1934 the son of Raymond W. and Blanche Morgan O’Ferrell. He was a graduate of Bessemer High School and was a member of the City of Greensboro Fire Department for 37 years retiring as Captain. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Howard was a 32nd Degree Mason, a member of Revolution Lodge #552 A.F. & A.M. and a member of the Scottish Rite. He was a member of New Bessemer Baptist Church and served as a deacon of the church. Howard was preceded in death by his parents.
On June 11, 1955 he was married to the former Virginia “Jenny” Rogers who survives of the home. Surviving in addition to his wife Jenny O’Ferrell are two daughters, Kimberly A. Brown of Greensboro and Kelly G. O’Ferrell of Madison, WI; grandson, Matthew R. Brown of Greensboro; sister, Carol A. O’Ferrell of Greensboro and his brother, Ralph E. O’Ferrell and wife Nancy of Julian.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 10:00 a.m. at New Bessemer Baptist Church, 4115 Hines Chapel Rd., McLeansville, NC 27301 and conducted by Reverend Dr. Don Clement. Interment will follow with Masonic Rites and military honors by the Randolph County Honor Guard at Guilford Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Hanes-Lineberry Funeral Home Sedgefield Chapel, 6000 High Point Rd., Greensboro, NC 27407 on Sunday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Memorials are requested to be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Greensboro, 2500 Summit Ave., Greensboro, NC 27405.
