Helen Porter King was born in the spring of 1942, to the late Paul and Melba Williamson, and transitioned to be with her Lord December 2022. The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 PM, Tuesday, December 13, 2022 at Hanes-Lineberry North Elm Chapel, 515 North Elm Street, Greensboro, NC. Helen's life will be celebrated at 1PM, December 14, 2022 at United Institutional Baptist Church, 802 East Market Street, Greensboro, NC, preceded with visitation from 12 PM to 1 PM.
Helen graduated from Sedalia High School where she excelled in English and public speaking. Maxie McClure who preceded her in death was her best friend. She also attended Guilford Technical Community College. She worked at Cone Mills prior to her career at Wesley Long Hospital and Cone Hospital for 15 years as a nurse’s aide advancing to a CNA Nurse Tech 1 managing the floor. Her life’s work was dedicated to helping those in need. She was first joined to John Porter in holy matrimony and subsequently married the late John Dale King.
Helen accepted Christ as her personal savior at 12 years of age and attended United Institutional Baptist Church until her health declined.
She was preceded in death by nine siblings: Ruth Mae Brevard, Jenette Williamson, Lessie Williamson, Betty Foust, Mary Louise Jones, Paul Williamson Jr, Willie Williamson, Odel Williamson, and Roy Williamson.
She leaves to cherish her life and legacy, five children, Dr. Sonya Rena Porter Draper of Greensboro, NC, Dr. Silva Kay Porter-Deal of Cameron, NC, Rev. Dr. Johanna Marie Porter Kelley of Winston Salem, NC, John Willie Porter, Jr. of Greensboro, NC, Mac Arthur Porter of McLeansville, NC; seven grandchildren, Jordan Kelley of Winston Salem, NC, Asia Porter of Winston Salem, NC, Charles Deal III of Cameron, NC, Indonesia Porter of Greensboro, NC, Jonathan Porter of Greensboro, NC, DeAngelo Porter of McLeansville, NC and Mal’akhl Little of Greensboro NC; sisters, Garie Cleveland (David) of Washington, DC and Parthenia Shoffner of Greensboro, NC; sister-in-law, Sharon Williamson and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
