Grace Harris Johnson was born on June 15, 1917 and earned her heavenly reward on June 27, 2014 surrounded by the people who loved her most. “Amazing Grace” as she should be called, was a devoted wife to Ralph Clyde Johnson, who predeceased her in 1988, three daughters, Linda Sue Johnson, who passed away in infancy, Judy Swinney, Brenda Coltrane and her husband Leon. She was the grandmother and second mother to Jennifer Swinney Parker (Chad), Jonathan Coltrane (Sherrie), James Coltrane (Francisa), Melissa Swinney Eller, and Kerry Swinney. She is also survived by five great-grandchildren. Grace spent her life in the service of others. She was faithful to the Lord and was a member of Lankford Memorial Baptist Church. Her bible remained beside her in her recliner and its well-worn pages are a testament to her love of God. She loved to work in her garden, canning her harvests, and sharing her gifts with those who were in need. She was an amazing cook, baker and loved to crochet. Grace also took on the task of helping to raise her 5 grandchildren. She taught them the value of hard work, the love of being outdoors, treating other with respect and loving God. She always had a “kiss and a peck and hug around the neck, Toot Toot!” for each of them. Grace was cared for devotedly by her daughters, Brenda and Judy. She remained in her home for her entire life because of their love. Our family is forever grateful to both of them for their care. The days were long, but the years were too short.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, June 29th from 5pm to 7pm at Hanes Lineberry Funeral Home on Elm Street. A funeral service celebrating her life will be held at Lankford Memorial Baptist Church located at 3708 Yanceyville Street Greensboro, NC at 12pm on Monday, June 30, 2014 with burial afterwards at Lakeview Memorial Park. The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association 4615 Dundas Drive, Suite 103 Greensboro, NC 27407 or to Lankford Memorial Baptist Church. We would also like to express our appreciation to the Staff of Moses Cone Hospital, Julie Barr of Back to Basics Home Medical Visits and the Forever Young Home Care for their all of their loving care. “A Mother’s hug lasts long after she lets go.” Author Unknown.
