In honor of a life well lived, we share that Dean Emeritus Glenn Leslie Hall, 95, passed to his heavenly home on March 21, 2021 in Greensboro, NC. He was at home surrounded by loved ones and a special team of caregivers.
Dean Hall grew up in York County, PA, and was a veteran of WWII where he served in the U.S. Navy onboard the USS Granville in the Pacific. After the war, he returned to Lebanon Valley College and completed his BA in political science and history. He started his education career, in a one room schoolhouse in 1954 but went on to teach at every grade level including graduate school. He held a MA in History from George Washington University and won a Fulbright to teach in the Netherlands for a year. In 1965, he was the first faculty member hired at Bucks County Community College, Newtown PA. During 1971 he was named Dean of Academic Affairs. He spent the rest of his professional career at BCCC where was beloved and respected by both students and faculty. In 1976, he was among the first group of educators to visit China since the communist takeover in 1949.
Dean Hall is survived by his daughter, Leslie Hall Webb, Greensboro, NC; his grandchildren, Caroline, and her husband, Hector Cotto, of Fuquay Varina; and Kyle Glenn Webb, of Greensboro. He was preceded in death by his wife Gloria Kline Hall and his son-in-law Gary Webb.
Although he spent most of his life living and working in Pennsylvania, in 2018 he moved to NC after the death of Gloria, where he was affectionately called Papa by everyone he met. Papa loved life, was a voracious reader, appreciated good writing and thought it so essential that he taught Basic Writing at BCCC after retiring as Dean. He loved to travel and took many trips to Europe. Italy was always his favorite destination. As a musician in his younger years, Papa played the organ, piano and violin. He had a great appreciation of Jazz and was thrilled when he met the great Duke Ellington.
A graveside memorial service will be held at Washington Crossing National Cemetery, Newtown, PA on Friday, June 4th at 2:30pm.
Memorial donations can be made in Dean Hall’s honor to BCCC Music Dept or Starmount Presbyterian Church, 3501 West Market St., Greensboro, NC. Music Program.
As expressed fondly, in appreciation by a former colleague:
“You lived each day as a gentleman and a gentle man possessed of humor and insightful wit.” We will forever be better humans because you loved us unconditionally.
