Glenn Franklin Conrad, Captain Retired North Carolina State Highway Patrol, 79, a resident of Greensboro died Saturday August 13, 2011 at Moses H. Cone Hospital. Mr. Conrad was born August 4, 1932 in Lexington the son of Yoder Cline and Lena Myers Conrad. He graduated from Churchland High School in 1950. A veteran of the U.S. Army Glenn was assigned to the US Embassy in Vienna Austria. After completing his service in the Army, he applied to the State Highway Patrol and was sworn in on May 1, 1958. He served in Reidsville until 1970 when he was promoted to Line Sergeant and assigned to High Point. He was promoted to First Sergeant and assigned to Hickory in 1979. He was later promoted to Lieutenant and assigned to Troop D Headquarters in 1985. He was promoted to Captain on March 1, 1993 where he served as the Commanding Officer of Troop D until he retired on July 31, 1994. He was the first trooper in Troop D to be certified to operate VASCAR when it was introduced to the state in the fall of 1967.
Glenn was a member of Fairfield United Methodist Church in High Point. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Ruth Paquin, Sarah Busse and one brother, John Conrad.
Surviving are his wife, Jimmie Miller Conrad of the home; two daughters, Merri Lynne Conrad of Kernersville and Betsy Conrad Whittington and husband Stan of Millers Creek; two step-daughters, Tina Cherie Beasley and husband Eric of VA and Ginger Leigh Payne and husband Chip of Mt. Pleasant, SC; one step-son, James Brant Coble of Burlington; one sister, Delia Ann Stone of Salisbury; one brother, Fred Conrad of Lexington; sister-in-law, Bobbe Conrad of Lexington; two grandchildren, Sarah Lynne and Salem Nicole Whittington and one step-granddaughter, Nicole Lindsey Payne.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 2:00 p.m. at Fairfield United Methodist Church, 1505 NC 62 W., High Point, NC 27263 conducted by the Reverend Jill Auman. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Honors for Captain Conrad will be provided by the North Carolina State Highway Patrol Honor Guard. The family will receive friends at the Hanes-Lineberry Funeral Home Sedgefield Chapel 6000 High Point Rd., Greensboro, NC 27407 on Sunday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
