Frank M Grove III of Greensboro died peacefully while surrounded by family on October 29. Born in Greensboro, he attended Christ School in Asheville, Greensboro Senior High and Pierce College in Philadelphia.
After having served in the Korean War and completing a world tour in the Navy on the USS Benham, Frank was a prominent businessman in Greensboro, working with his father and two brothers in the 1950’s with CV Industries, a furniture distributorship that was widely known on the east coast for many years. In 1971 Frank ventured out of the furniture distributor business and started Spring Air Mattress Corporation where he was President and Chairman, to be later joined by his brothers Dick and John until retiring in 2018.
Frank was an avid runner with the Greensboro Running Club, having completed several marathons. He enjoyed driving to the parkway and hiking on weekends, often leading advanced hikes with the Piedmont Triad Hiking and Outing Club. He was an avid golfer and a lifelong member of the Greensboro Country Club. Frank was also a devoted animal lover. He had numerous dogs throughout his life and loved his current Australian Shepherd “Babe”. In his retirement, Frank served as a volunteer taking care of many of the animals at the Greensboro Science Center. He was an active member of St. John’s Anglican Church of Greensboro. Frank will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Frank is preceded in death by his parents Frank and Bessie Grove. He is survived by his wife Carolyn Grove, brothers Dick Grove (Carolyn) and John Grove and sister Betty Grove Hamilton, sons Matthew Grove (Beth) and Frank “Butch” Grove (Tammy), daughter Suellen McCrary (John), grandchildren Patrick McCrary (Kristin), Sara McCrary Strassel (Andy), and Frankie Grove, and three great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held Wednesday Nov. 2 at 2:00 pm at Green Hill Cemetery in Greensboro.
