Born on June 3, 1926, Florence grew up in Lillington, NC, with three sisters and one brother, the children of Joseph and Irma Smith. Her sister Agnes and her husband Joe Bordeaux of Durham, NC, and brother Joseph P. Smith of New Port Richey, FL, survive her. Sisters Daphne Ginnings and Irma Gossett predeceased her. She is also survived by brothers-in-law Norman Gossett of Gasburg, VA, and Paul Ginnings of Wadsworth, OH, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Florence graduated from Woman’s College (now UNCG) after completing a one-year commercial course program. For many years, she was employed by J.J. Lindsay and Associates, later A.M. Pullen and Company.
A longtime member of First Presbyterian Church of Greensboro, Florence served as a volunteer and a needlepoint worker for children’s samplers. She also volunteered at Wesley Long Hospital. For many years she was an avid golfer and a needlework expert.
Florence was preceded in death by her first husband, Emory W. Culclasure, Jr., her second husband, Richard W. Llewellyn, and her son, Emory W. Culclasure, III. She is survived by her son, Scott P. Culclasure, his wife, Nancy, and their children, Alice and David; her daughter, Daphne C. Shaw, and her husband, Ralph; and daughter-in-law Sharon Culclasure of Greensboro, NC. Also surviving is the warm and loving family of Rich Llewellyn and Chris Caldwell and their children Robert and Rosie of Los Angeles, CA; Jan Llewellyn of Los Angeles, CA; Jack and Eileen Llewellyn and their children Margaret and Bridget of Springfield, MO; and Marygrace Llewellyn of Greensboro, NC.
A memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church on Thursday, March 21, 2013, at 11 am with inurnment immediately afterward in the church columbarium. The family will then receive visitors in the church’s Virginia Gilmer Room.
