Ethel Oliver Sizemore was born on August 26, 1923 in Smithfield, Virginia. Ethel was the youngest of twelve siblings, nine boys and three girls. During WW II, she met Jasper Sizemore when he was stationed near the country store that her family owned where she was working. Family history is that Ethel ran behind the counter when he first walked in the door. She always said it was his brown eyes and long legs that captured her attention. They married October 10, 1942 and lived most of their married life in Greensboro, N.C. They were truly devoted to each other and were able to celebrate their 50th anniversary before his death in 1994.
They have two daughters who survive, Patsy S. Cole and Polly Sizemore. Also surviving are son-in-law Danny Cole, grandchildren Janet Marie Wallace (Steve Foskett), Mindy Sue McCandless, Robert Shane Cole (Jennifer), Buffie Cole Nuckols (Gary), and James Travis Cole, six great grandchildren and two great great granddaughters. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and their children who dearly loved her.
After her daughters were in high school, Ethel returned to work in retail and for many years worked at Bluebell/Wrangler/Vanity Fair Employee Store. Ethel had a flair for putting together outfits and loved helping people shop. She loved dressing she and “Jap” in color co-ordinated outfits.
Ethel loved her family, her friends, and all people and people loved her. With her lovely smile with just a hint of mischief and a twinkle in her eye, she drew everyone to her. During her later years, she was fortunate to have so many people who cared for her and doted on her. The family thanks all of you.
Ethel died peacefully in the early morning hours of May 2, 2017.
