Greensboro-Mrs. Esther Wooten Stevens, 82, died on Monday, April 14, 2014 at High Point Regional Hospital. Graveside services, officiated by Reverend Nila Souther, will be at 1 PM, Thursday, April 17 at Lakeview Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 PM on Wednesday, April 16 at Hanes-Lineberry N. Elm chapel and at other times at the residence of Chris and Donna Stevens, 4608 Saddlewood Club Drive, High Point, NC 27265.
Esther was born in Vass, NC and was educated at Greensboro High School and Nyack Missionary College where she earned a degree in teaching. In 1955 she married James Herman Stevens and spent fifty two wonderful years together until his death in 2007. Together they raised their son, Chris and spent time together traveling extensively as a family. She was employed for more than forty years with Southern Life Insurance from which she retired. Esther was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, enjoyed listening to classical music, doing crosswords and watching TV. She was a member of St. Paul Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School. She will be remembered as a generous, sweet lady who could strike up a great conversation with anyone.
She is survived by her son Chris and his wife Donna of High Point; grandson, Jordan Stevens; brothers, Elvin Wooten of Union Town, PA and Robert Wooten of Greensboro; sister, Bonnie Adams of Charlotte; and several nieces and nephews.
