Eric Dwain Cheek passed this life peacefully Tuesday morning, Aug.10, 2021 after a short time of declining health. He was surrounded by those he loved and who loved him dearly. Eric’s friendly demeanor, care, wisecracking wisdom and sense of humor has been joy and comfort to all those who knew him. He was a generous and kind soul who loved the outdoors and nature. Fishing was his favorite pastime, frequently at the Wildlife Club and over the years, many hours on Johnnie Mercer’s pier on the NC Coast. He also enjoyed golf, tennis, reading and watching football and the race. He was the best son, grandson, brother and uncle anyone could imagine- loving and supporting all, whether a birth, hospitalization, reunion of end of life, he was there,
A graduate of Page High School and UNCG Bryan School of Business and Economics, he worked for thirteen years at Stamey’s BBQ as manager before transitioning into the Insurance Industry as Account Manager, Atlantic Division, with Church Mutual Insurance where he qualified and enjoyed 19 world-wide trips over his 32 year career. These included ice fishing in Banff, atop the Sacre Coeur in Paris, enjoying sunny Hawaii, Jamaica, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic and Mexico, as well as many more memorable destinations.
He is survived by his long time love of his life, Harriet Presnell; his mother, Mary Elkins Cheek; brother, John D. Cheek (Heather); sister, Bonita L. Duluc (Rafael); sister, Laurie L.
