Eric cheek and my sister dated for more than 20 years.  Eric was one in a million.  He took care of her she took care of him.  They owned a beautiful kitty 🐈 cat together, Beau.  Eric was a kind and decent man.  And oh, I left out gorgeous.  Everyone who loved Eric still loves Eric.

In the fall of 1984 I met Eric in Merrill, WI at a new representative training class for Church Mutual Insurance Company. During the next few years I would see Eric at the Company’s President Circle Award trips. At a number these events Eric and some of the other reps would take ocean fishing trips. Eric and others would return to the resort with their daily catch to have the resort’s chef prepare the fish for dinner. Even thought I did not partake in the fishing event Eric always invited my wife and I to have dinner with him to partake in the dinner. We always enjoyed out time with Eric who had a great sense of humor and a very friendly personality.

I knew Eric back in the day!  80’s Lincoln Green Apartments and of course we frequented all of our favorite clubs to go dancing.  Eric and I knew a lot of the same people and Lincoln Green was the place to be on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon!  So many good memories of such fun times.  Eric was well known for his good looks but also for being a genuinely nice guy.  I have fond memories of him and was very saddened to hear he had passed.  I live at the coast now and a friend in Greensboro saw the obituary.  I remember him being very close to his family ~ sincere condolences to them.  

The Cheek's have been our next door neighbors for over 50yrs. There are so many memories spent with Eric as kids growing up with all the neighborhood kids and spending many hours together during the Summers. Our group included Eric, Robert Cosper, Marti Scott, Donna Cox and Me! Some of our many adventures included: numerous hours riding our bikes through the woods behind our houses on self-made bike trails, our almost daily treks through those same woods to Pooles Grocery for a cold drink and as much candy as we could afford, the softball games on our own "Field Of Dreams" on a clearing behind our homes and finally the golf matches on our "homemade" golf course built on the big open field that was the old WBIG Radio Station.....so many childhood memories of Eric and the neighborhood gang!!
In the latter years I know how devoted Eric was to his Mom as I witnessed his daily trips/visits to her house to care for her and keep the yard so neat and maintained. Eric was soft spoken and kind and my lasting memory will be him smiling and throwing up his hand to speak as he pulled up in his bright red car!! 
We are heartbroken that Eric left this life too soon but our prayer  is you have the peace and comfort knowing Eric is with the Lord and you will see him again in Heaven.....John 14 verses 1-3

Eric and I met when we were hired the same day  entering into the commercial insurance industry back in the summer of 1984. We also trained together, while in Richmond, Va. and also at the company's headquarters in Wisconsin. Eric had a great sense of humor and a quick wit regarding our work as insurance agents. He  was very meticulous, thoughtful and detailed in his work and took it very seriously. He had the highest integrity and was very honest and highly intelligent, plus he had a very strong work ethic. He was also of the Baptist faith, which he explained to me in our past conversations, being brought up, along with his family, at Parkway Baptist Church in town.  He adored and highly respected his parents and helped them as much as possible during their latter years. He was also very helpful  with his younger brother, John and both of his younger sisters, Benita and Laurie. He was a very good friend to both me and my wife(Debbie) during our working years together. It has been my  privilege to have known and worked with Eric Cheek as a valuable friend and person. Eric, you will be missed, but, you will always remain in our hearts and memories. We shall meet again in God's glorious eternal kingdom in heaven above. May you rest in eternal peace. 

I got to know Eric playing tennis at the Lincoln Green apartments, we had a weekend group that would play and he was a great player we shared and enjoyed many great afternoons of tennis, we lost him way too soon so sorry to hear of his passing.

Eric & I grew up together and went to Parkway Baptist Church, where he joined both the Youth Choir as well as the Santuary Choir!  He was an excellent tenor, and whenever there was time  before practices, he could be seen and heard behind the grand piano playing &  singing an Elton John song.  ("Bennie and the Jets", "Daniel",or 1 of  his other hits)  We were both chosen to memorize a  6 part contemporary cantata aimed at bringing people to find Jesus as their Savior, and we performed for other churches.  Eric was my Teenage (14/15) True Love and he loved to hang out at my parents house.  He loved my parents, brother and my extended family as much as they loved him.  I was fortunate to be loved by Eric and be his wife for a time. He always said that we had the most beautiful wedding he had ever seen, so he would never marry again. He liked that we had gotten married on Sweetest Day. (10/20/79)
There basically was nothing Eric couldn't do involving hobbies and sports.  His ever favorites were fishing and golf.
Eric was dedicated to caring for his Mother and was devoted to his love of many years, Harriet.  Consider yourself Lucky if you were among his group of friends!!

Of all the fond memories I have in my heart of time spent with my dear lifelong friend Eric I would have to say the trip he made with my family and I to Florida when we were 14 years old has to rank as number one! While stopping along the way visiting relatives Eric became an instant hit with all my aunts and uncles with his outgoing personality and genuine down home charm.

Our eventual destination was Orlando FL  to spend time with my uncle Rip.  We had timed the trip in hopes of catching the Apollo 15 mission launch at Cape Kennedy. We all got in the car and went to Titusville, FL that day, which is the closest as you could get to the cape but had a great view of the rocket setting on the launch pad. After a long wait we could see the enormous fireball at the base of the rocket and billowing plum of smoke following. The strangest thing Eric and I remembered about that day is that it took a while for the sound of the rocket to reach us. And once it did the rumble was unbelievable and the ground beneath us shook. 

The next day we went on a trip to Disney World which had not officially opened to the public yet but were allowing a limited number of people in each day to get in some practice for the staff and insure everything was working properly. I think my uncle had some connections who got us in. I remember one of the rides Eric and I rode was appropriately named space mountain which at times would go pitch dark as you were flying through it on a roller coaster type apparatus.  Another day together we would always remember!

My parents loved Eric as if he were another son as did I love him as a brother.  I can imagine them now reflecting back on that trip and all the other times spent together.

As they would say back in the Apollo mission days “God Speed” my dear friend Eric it has truly been an honor to have been on the same flight crew with you rocketing through this life and can only imagine the magnificent journeys that lay ahead in Heaven!






My deepest sympathy to you all at the loss of your dear Eric.  I am thinking of you and I know God will look after you and comfort you knowing that you will see him again.  I love you all.


I did not know Eric very well, but I do know that Harriet loved him very much and that affection would not have been given lightly if it was not deserved.  The times that I was around Eric he was very kind and had a wonderful sense of humor.  My prayers go out to Harriet and the Cheek family and wish them comfort in their time of need.  


Eric Cheek was one of the most wonderful men I ever knew.  He was kind generous warm and friendly.  Eric had a fantastic sense of humor and made my sister so very happy.  Eric loved life and had many good and long-term friendships.  His priorities were family, my sister, Keith, pets, and of course fishing.
I was so lucky to have him as a friend for a good part of my life.-- Bobsie
