

ELLIE "COOKIE" VARSAMIS HICKS, 74, of Carolina Beach, departed from this life on Wednesday, June 17, 2015 at Lower Cape Fear Hospice and Life Care Center.Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 23, 2015 at the Dormition of the Theotokos Greek Orthodox Church, located at 800 Westridge Rd., in Greensboro, with Father Thomas Newlin officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery. Born August 15, 1940 in Mavromati, Greece to the late William Nicholas Varsamis and Elaine Foufas Varsamis, Ellie was a member of the Dormition of the Theotokos Greek Orthodox Church. She retired from Burlington Industries where she worked as an accountant for 30 years. Ellie loved living at the beach and was an avid gardener. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt, and all-around wonderful friend who was loved by many and will be missed by all who knew her. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of ten years, Herbert E. Hicks; two brothers, George and Nick Varsamis; and a sister, Maria Kalogiros.Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Susan Frick (Bob); brother, Kimmon Varsamis (Gwen); sisters, Dorothy Megremis (Louie) and Nickie Tsintzos; sisters-in-law, Kay and Betty Varsamis, all of Greensboro; eleven nieces and nephews; 15 great nieces and nephews; and eight great-great nieces and nephews.The family will receive friends from 6:30 until 8:30 p.m. at the church on Monday evening, June 22, 2015.Memorial contributions may be made to the Dormition of the Theotokos Greek Orthodox Church, 800 Westridge Rd., Greensboro, NC 27410; or St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, 608 S.
