Born to Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Pinkston and raised in Salisbury, NC, Ella Marie was a graduate of the Women’s College of North Carolina, now UNCG.
She began her career as a social worker at the New England Home for Little Wanderers in Boston. She later moved to Greensboro to marry Earl J. Rodman and raise her family while continuing her career at the Children’s Home Society. She was a model for Montaldo’s and Ellis Stone, a member of the Greensboro Lecture League, volunteer at Wesley Long Hospital, an avid bridge and gin rummy player and a world traveler.
She was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Greensboro and Lutheran Church of Reconciliation in Wilmington.
Ella Marie moved to Wilmington in 2000 as a resident of Plantation Village and most recently at Champions Assisted Living.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl L. Rodman, and sister, Sarah Pinkston Johnston.
Cherishing her memory are her daughter, Stephanie Rodman Woodard, Wilmington, NC; son, Bob Rodman and wife Anne, Greensboro; grandchildren, Bradley Rodman (Rebecca), Brendon Woodard, Randall Rodman and Sara Hollis Woodard (Chase); great- grandson, Preston Hardrove; niece, Susan Johnston Harper, and nephew, Middleton Johnston.
A visitation will be held Thursday, 5-7 pm, November 5, 2015 at the home of Bob and Anne Rodman,6 Lake Forest Ct, Greensboro, NC 27408. A family graveside service will be held in Greensboro.
