Elizabeth Gallagher Hodgin went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 3, 2013. Elizabeth “Lib” was born on January 9, 1924 to John Francis Gallagher and Ada Barnes Gallagher in Sanford, Florida. She was raised at the Nazareth Orphanage in Raleigh, North Carolina and graduated from Cathedral Latin High School.
She was of the Catholic Faith and a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church.
Lib and her husband, Norman, founded Hodgin Construction Company in 1946 where she worked for many years. Lib was also very active as a volunteer in the Sumner School/Southern Guilford community and in later years at Maryfield. Her home was always open and a gathering place for many who grew up in the community. She never met a stranger and lived her life by example, touching the lives of many. Her zest for life was contagious. Lib was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend who will be missed by all.
Lib was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, G. Norman in 1996 and her daughter, Jean Marie in 2009. Those left to cherish her memory are her children: Richard Norman (Fay); George Andrew (Shirley); Steven Francis (Pamela); Elizabeth Anne Riggs (Gregory); Nancy Patricia Moody (David); 15 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her beloved sister, Mary Frances Donahoe and her family.
The family will receive friends at Hanes-Lineberry, Sedgefield Chapel from 6-8 PM on Sunday, July 7, 2013. A mass celebrating her life will be conducted at 11:00 AM Monday, July 8, 2013 at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church on West Market Street in Greensboro, NC.
