Elizabeth (Betty) C. Hile, age 99, of Greensboro, NC, died March 19, 2024 at the Well Spring Retirement Community in Greensboro. Born Elizabeth Hopkins Cole on May 30, 1924, Mrs. Hile was the youngest child and only daughter of the late Aubrey Randolph Cole and Bertha Eugenia Harman Cole of Anne Arundel County, Maryland.
Elizabeth was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 70 years, Charles R. “Jack” Hile of Greensboro, a son Richard Stanley Hile (Diane), and brothers, Albert Harman Cole, Richard Stanley Cole II, and Edwin Randolph Cole Sr.
Surviving her are son John Randolph Hile and wife Marcia of Greensboro, NC, four grandchildren, Scott Randolph Hile (Tara) of Washington, DC, Sara Hile Zukowski (Matt) of Greensboro, NC, Elizabeth G. Hile of Clayton, NC and Dana L. Hile of Ashford, AL, six great grandchildren and 2 great, great grandchildren.
Elizabeth grew up and lived in Linthicum Heights, MD until she met and married Jack Hile in 1941. For many years they lived in the Suburban Philadelphia, PA. area and also in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. In the mid-1970s, they moved to Greensboro, NC where they resided until their deaths.
She enjoyed traveling with Jack all over the world in her later years especially with the group from First Presbyterian Church in Greensboro where she and Jack were members. She also belonged to the Daughters of the American Revolution. She really liked American history. Lastly, she was a member of the Weatherspoon Guild at the University of North Carolina Greensboro.
Elizabeth was an excellent seamstress and loved to sew especially in the winter time when the weather was inclement. She enjoyed making clothes for herself and in later years for her granddaughters.
Elizabeth’s faith and love of God were central to all aspects of her life. The family would like to thank the staff at Well-Spring and AuthoraCare Hospice for their loving care and kindness. All those who knew her will miss her.
A private graveside service will be held at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Greensboro for the family.
