Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 18, 2023 at 2:00 pm at Hanes-Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel, 6000 West Gate City Blvd., Greensboro, NC 27407. Edith will be laid to rest next to her husband immediately following the service in Guilford Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends and loved ones, one hour prior to the funeral, at the funeral home, from 1:00 until 2:00 pm.
Edith was born November 28, 1922, in Hamblen County, Tennessee, to the late Andrew and Mary Hayes. She was the oldest of seven children. Edith was a Homemaker, never worked outside the home but, she did run Russell’s Bait Shop out of her basement for over 20 years. (Always looking forward to seeing her customers in the early a.m., making sure they had everything needed for their day on the lake.)
She enjoyed nothing more than having her family over for get togethers, especially for a good ole fish fry. No special occasion needed, small or large, it brightened her day and warmed her heart just to see you.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Russell; her sons, Freddie and C.H. Russell; daughter-in-law, Anna Russell; a granddaughter, Shanna Russell; and a grandson, Chris Wiseburn and all 6 of her siblings; brothers, Joe and Buck Hayes and sisters, Ann Lawson, Mae Matthews, Maxine Long and Cora Lee Hayes. Edith will forever be cherished and remembered by her son, Gerald Russell (Ronda); daughter, Kay Williams; daughter-in-law, Peggy Russell; grandchildren, Jerry (Jeannine), Chris (Sherry), Kim (Toby), Melanie (Jimmy), Melissa, Patti (Woody), Charles (Jennifer); 16 beautiful great-grandchildren and 9 adorable great great-grandchildren.
