Edgar (Ed) Francis Currie Jr., 73, passed away suddenly on Sunday January 7, 2024. After doing what he loved to do, side by side with his wife Anna, Ed’s giant heart and passion for all things living gave way. He took his “last flight” to Heavenly eternity.
A celebration of Life service will be held on Friday, January 12, 2024 at 4:00 pm at Hanes Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel, 6000 West Gate City Blvd., Greensboro, NC 27407. A celebration reception will immediately follow where friends and family can celebrate Ed and all he meant to everyone in a BIG WAY with laughs and tears in the funeral home's reception hall.
Ed was a native of Asheville, NC and the son of the late Lilly Elvin Currie and Edgar Francis Currie, Sr. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Judith Margaret Jones,\; paternal grandparents, Ethel and Frank Currie; and maternal grandparents, John and Lilly Elvin.
Ed was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Greensboro. He had many side passions in life. At the time of his death, he was President of the Akela Cove Homeowners Association, President of the James Landing Property Owners Association, involved with the NC GOP and the Guilford County GOP, Chief Election Judge of Area FR2 for Guilford County and in the Mustang Club of America. He loved volunteering with the Southwest Guilford High School Band when his daughter was in high school and was a majorette for the marching band program. He drove the band trailer with his “big red truck” to all of their competitions throughout the state, designed their competition props and did whatever he could to help “his kids”!
Ed leaves behind, his cherished wife and business partner of 29 years Anna Galloway-Currie; their only child, his beloved Alexis Vaden Lee Currie and her fiancé Amren Brenn Strigo; sister, Marcia Ann Currie and her fiancé Vince Harper; niece, Amanda Michelle Banks; and great-nephew, Carter Harley Banks; work son, Brady Thomas Garner and wife Tiffany Marie Garner, their children Scout Thomas Garner and Madeline Joyce Garner; countless additional nieces, nephews and adopted “family” members. Each and every one of them meaning something very special to him.
Ed graduated from TC Robeson High School in Asheville, NC, the class of 1969. He went on to graduate from Western Carolina University for undergrad and his beloved North Carolina State University for his masters. Ed worked for Lowes Company after graduation, moving and traveling all over the state as division credit manager. He also worked for Federal Pacific electric. Ed’s entrepreneurial spirit led him to open The Professional Touch Florist in Raleigh, NC. At that time, he took on one of his most favorite jobs as customer service representative for Piedmont Airlines. He was based out of Raleigh. Anyone that knew Ed, knew his passion for his beloved Piedmont. Ed moved to Greensboro in 1992 and worked for ABC Supply. At that time, he began to design decks. His designs are still seen throughout the Triad Area. Ed started two consumer shows in Greensboro; The Triad Home and Remodeling Show (one of the first remodeling shows in Greensboro) and Triad Women of the 90’s (A show that was way before it’s time focusing on the needs of women in the Triad). Each of these shows were produced with the fervency that only Ed knew how to do. During these years, he was recruited by a friend to bartend for Equinox Caterers in High Point. This is where he met his wife of 29 years. In 1994 they married and joined their passions in life together. Ed and Anna were a team. Some years later, Ed decided that Anna needed to go out on her own and open her dream catering company. Ed’s entrepreneurial spirit initiated the opening of their beloved Exclamations Catering & Event Specialists. This combined both of their passions; catering, design, event planning and floral. Side by side, the two of them created the dream of exclamations! Later in life and never being satisfied with slowing down, Ed still had “jet fuel” in his veins and worked for Koury Aviation and Signature Aviation. He then decided to set that entrepreneurial spirit to work one last time and form another company called Lilly’s Antiques and Collectibles / estate sales. He got his auctioneer license from the state. This company was a result of his deep seeded love of antiques and all things English. This company was named for his beloved “Mum” Lilly who was a British war bride. Once again, Ed put his energy into making Lilly’s be all that it could be. He always said, “We fly first class or we don’t fly!” Ed was most looking forward to his daughter Alexis’ wedding in November and making it the most beautiful event he had ever done! At the time of his death, Ed was doing what he loved. He stood side by side with his wife Anna at the Marry Me Wedding Show and handed out roses to each and every bride asking then “would you accept this rose”!
Ed was a master at many things. His impactful and larger than life personality touched everyone he ever met. He made the world a more beautiful place to live whether it was through his incredible floral skills, design skills, gardening, passionate love of family, neighborhood, home or country. Everything that he touched had that special Ed touch! His wife always said it was easier to ask what Ed had not done in life than what Ed had done. His friends and family always knew the saying “Enough said, call Ed!”
