Dwight Kenneth Sumner, 83, passed away at Randolph Hospice House on Sunday, October 13, 2019 surrounded by his loving family. A funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 16, 2019 at Mount Zion United Methodist Church, 2354 Finch Farm Road, Trinity, North Carolina. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Randolph Memorial Park.
Kenneth was born in Randolph County and spent the majority of his life working as a fixer in the hosiery industry, owning his own hosiery mill, Sumner Hosiery. He was also a U.S. Army veteran. Kenneth enjoyed NASCAR, gospel singings and especially his grandchildren. After losing his first wife, Geraldine, Kenneth was blessed to be reunited with a childhood friend, Becky, whom he later married. Becky’s family warmly welcomed him into the fold and they meant so much to him during his remaining years.
Kenneth is preceded in death by his first wife, Geraldine Small Sumner; father, Paul Sumner; mother and stepfather, Louie and Stan Edwards; and brother, Farrell Sumner.
Kenneth is survived by his beloved wife, Rebecca Kindley Sumner; sister, Delinda Beane; sons, Chris Sumner (Kim) and Eric Sumner (Anita); stepchildren, Steve Kindley (Cathy), Ken Kindley, and Nancy Allred (Sam); eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and many special nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Dr. McCarty and staff, Randolph Hospital, and the staff at Randolph Hospice House for the loving care they provided Kenneth throughout the past year. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to Randolph Hospice House, 446 Vision Drive, Asheboro, NC 27203.
