Mr. Carroll is survived by his son Doug Carroll, wife Jamie, grandsons Michael and Jonathan of Round Rock, Texas; sister, Patty Turner of Columbia, Maryland; brother, Reverend Raleigh Carroll Jr. of Wilmington, NC and many loving nieces and nephew. He was preceded in death by wife, Barbara (Gee Gee) Carroll and son Alan Dwight Carroll.
Dwight was born on May 26, 1927 in Roseboro, North Carolina, the son of Raleigh F. and Lida Tew Carroll. As a child, he grew up on the family farm, one of 7 children. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the US Navy enlisting at the age of 17, part of the greatest generation. After military service he started his career in the railroad industry, serving in the sales organization of C&O/B&O, Chessie and CSX Corporations. The family moved with his career from North Carolina, Virginia, Indiana, Ohio and Kentucky. He was a proud member of Murat Shrine Temple, the Scottish Right, a Free Mason and member of Corinthian Lodge 542 A.F. & A. M. Dwight retired in 1985, moving back to North Carolina with Gee Gee to be closer to family.
The family would like to thank the staff of Blumenthal Jewish Nursing Home for their loving support of Dwight and Gee Gee over the past 5 years.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at the Hanes-Lineberry Funeral Home Sedgefield Chapel conducted by the Reverend Dr. Don Clement and Reverend Raleigh Carroll, Jr. Interment with Military Honors by the Randolph County Honor Guard and Masonic Rites will be in the family plot at Guilford Memorial Park in Greensboro. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 12:00 p.m. until service time.
