Dorothy “Dot” Calhoun Oldham, 91, died January 27, 2019 at Moses Cone Hospital. A funeral to celebrate her life will be at 11 AM, Saturday, February 2 at Hanes-Lineberry N. Elm chapel with Pastor Jim Cates officiating, followed by interment at Lakeview Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM, Friday, February 1 at the funeral home.
Dot graduated as valedictorian in 1945 from Summerfield High School. She loved southern gospel music and enjoyed singing with and accompanying trios and quartets at several Baptist churches. Music was her calling from the Lord. In 2017, she retired as organist from Tabernacle Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Arena Henderson Calhoun; her husband, Jasper Oldham in 2014; four brothers; and two sisters. Surviving Dot are her children and their spouses, Larry and Dena Oldham of Salisbury and Diana Lynn and George Hipp of Greensboro; grandsons, Seth Oldham and Lance (Vanessa) Oldham; great grandson, Toby Oldham; sister, Ora Stanley of Greensboro; and many nieces and nephews.
Dot’s family would like to express their appreciation to the staff of 6th Floor North at Moses Cone Hospital for their tender care of Dot during her stay. In lieu of flowers memorials in Dot’s memory may be directed to the charity of one’s choice.
