Greensboro-Dorothy “Dot” Cox Crater died on August 23, 2014 at her home after a year long battle with cancer. Funeral services will be at Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church on Monday, August 25, at 2PM. The committal service will be at a later date at Crews United Methodist Church in Winston-Salem. Visitation will be at Hanes-Lineberry North Elm Chapel, Sunday, August 24, from 6 to 8 PM.
She was born April 17, 1931 in Bassett, Virginia to Robert L. and Edna A. Cox and grew up in Stuart, Virginia and Winston-Salem. Dot was graduated from James A Gray High School and attended numerous insurance seminars
at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She worked in the Fire and Casualty insurance field and was retired from Robins & Weill Insurance Agency.
She is survived by her husband Henry Crater; two sons, Stephen (Kay) and David; three grandchildren, Shea, Windy and Andrew Crater; three great grandchildren, Taylor, Haidin and Ashtin; sister, Mary C. Ray; brother, A. Dan Cox (Nancy); special niece, Mikki Harper; and sisters-in-law, Betty Blalock (Tommy) and Lucy Weir. She was predeceased by four brothers, Moir, John, Robert, and Jim Cox and two sisters, Kate Clifton and Ada Boaz.
She has been a member of Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church for more than 50 years where she was a member of the Asbury Sunday School Class. Dot cherished time with family and doted on the grandchildren. She was an avid Braves and Carolina fan and a wonderful cook, a talent she passed on to family members. She enjoyed pottery, vegetable and flower gardening and was a gifted basket weaver. Her beloved canine companions could always be found close by.
